Understanding Performance Stats and Instability Indicators

If you’ve noticed icons showing up in the corners of your screen or want to monitor your system’s performance during intense spacefights, this guide will walk you through how to enable Wildgate’s performance display and what the in-game indicators mean.

How to Enable the Performance Display

To keep an eye on your system performance and connection to our servers:

From the Main Screen, select the Menu Select Options

  • Go to the Gameplay tab
  • Scroll down to the Performance Stats section
  • Toggle Performance Display to ON

Once enabled, you’ll see key performance metrics in the bottom-left corner of your screen. It will look like this:

Instability Indicators: What They Mean

Wildgate also shows instability indicators in the top-right corner of your screen. These icons appear when there’s an issue with your connection or server performance, helping you quickly identify what might be going wrong.

Below is a breakdown of each icon, what it represents, and what you can do if it appears:

Server Performance

  • What it means: The server’s frame rate (server FPS) is lower than expected.
  • What you might notice: Inconsistent or delayed response from the game server.
  • What to do: This is on us. We're constantly working to improve server performance and stability.

High Latency

  • What it means: Your ping is high, meaning data between your system and the server is taking longer than ideal.
  • What you might notice: Delayed actions, or enemy movement popping.
  • Troubleshooting Tips:
    • Try switching to a wired connection
    • Restart your router or modem
    • Close bandwidth-heavy applications (like streaming or large downloads)
    • Check for outages with your internet service provider

Packet Loss

  • What it means: Data packets are being dropped between your system and the server.
  • What you might notice: Choppy movement, teleporting players, or delayed inputs.
  • Troubleshooting Tips:
    • Enable the Performance Display to see real-time packet loss
    • Use a wired connection whenever possible
    • If on Wi-Fi, move closer to your router or reduce interference
    • Restart your router or modem
    • Contact your ISP if the problem persists

Note: Temporary or brief appearances of these icons are usually nothing to worry about. However, if they persist or appear frequently, they could indicate a more serious issue with your connection or system performance.
